How has this great nation, with all the power in the world, and all the freedom in the world, come to this?
The Unites States of America has a great history, and a great heritage. Our Constitution was the defining document of the Modern Age, providing a model for democracy, citizenship, and the rule of law. This when most people on Earth lived as subjects under the rule of kings.
Throughout most of our history America was more than just another country, we were a beacon of freedom and liberty. In addition to our progressive laws and ideals, we maintained an enviable standard of living for our citizens. During the twentieth century we became the world’s number one manufacturer, a leader in various technologies, and the world’s wealthiest nation.
Not anymore. Today we are dependent on foreign manufactured goods, foreign oil, and we pay for our extravagant way of life by borrowing the world’s money. Our financial system is tottering, the dollar is collapsing, and we are embroiled in two wars, both of which we are losing.
Once upon a time our cites like Detroit, Toledo, and Akron were great manufacturing centers. The Americans who worked in the factories there could afford to buy the cars, TVs, and other products that they made. Today those cities are ghettos, the factories are boarded up, and the people there struggle to live by working burger-flipping jobs.
And who transferred our wealth form the American Heartland to Asia? Millions of Americans spending billions of dollars on cheap imported goods at Wal-Mart, that’s who. We don’t pay each other to work anymore. Instead we have millions of Chinese earning less than a dollar an hour making our cell phones and flat screen TVs. In addition, there are over ten million Mexicans working as indentured servants in this country, picking crops and mowing lawns.
We use nearly half the world’s oil, driving road-rhino SUVs to and fro between our numerous shopping centers and suburban mansions. Despite the expense, the pollution, and the dangers of Global Warming, Americans refuse to buy smaller cars and live in centralized communities like the rest of the world. We would sooner lie and kill to maintain our control over the world’s oil supplies, as we’ve proven in Iraq.
You’d think that Americans would be the most grateful people on this planet, what with the Constitution, and the world’s largesse. Instead the American people have managed to bankrupt themselves. And rather than appreciate the abundance of our country, we have a culture of spoiled, bitch-mouthed reprobates.
Despite the macho bluster of our affluent youth, few of them would dream of enlisting in the Armed Forces. They disdain military service, preferring to live the trendy urban lifestyle that is depicted in our magazines and media. The job of fighting the nation’s wars is left to the poor.
Our “War on Terror” is being fought predominantly by rural Whites, urban Blacks, and Hispanics, who of course tend to be our poorest citizens. Most of our soldiers have seen at least two combat tours, and some have been in war zones for over four years. According to a survey conducted by the US Army’s Mental Health Advisory Team, 12% of combat troops in Iraq and 17% of those in Afghanistan are taking antidepressants or sleeping pills to help them cope.
The problem is most of our military personnel are good people, and they believe in the ideals for which they serve. So they have a difficult time committing murder. And that is exactly what we’ve done in Iraq, we’ve committed national, mass murder.
As of this week, 4721 US Servicemen have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan and at least 30,000 more have been seriously injured. No one knows how many Iraqis have been killed, estimates range from 300,000 to over a million dead. But everyone knows the war in Iraq is a sham and a lie.
There were no weapons of mass destruction in the country and Saddam Hussein was not involved in the 9/11 attacks. These were simply machinations of the Bush administration used to justify the invasion. We killed all those people and destroyed Iraq to gain control over that nation’s oil. It’s as simple as that.
The War on Terror is being fought by the poor, financed by Asian and Middle Eastern banks, and it is a lie. So the American people can perhaps be excused for not having a personal stake in it. But there can be no excuse for not holding our elected leaders to account, and demanding a withdrawal from Iraq.
By May of 2004, when President Bush announced an end to combat operations in Iraq, it was clear that the invasion had been a ploy to seize their oil. Then came the horrific pictures from Abu Ghraib prison, where US soldiers tortured and humiliated thousands of Iraqis. And there was Halliburton, the Vice President’s cash cow, constantly in the news for bilking taxpayers out of billions.
In addition to the wars, the budget surpluses of the Clinton years had disappeared. Our trade and budget deficits were over $400 billion each in 2004, the country was mired in a self-inflicted recession and hemorrhaging jobs. The elections in November should have been a mandate on the Bush administration’s corruption, and the War in Iraq.
What actually happened on Election day was a true reflection of our political convictions. Thirty percent of the people chose to re-elect President Bush, another thirty percent voted for the Democratic candidate, John Kerry. Forty percent of the American electorate, (the majority), did not even bother to show up and vote.
Over the past seven years the American People have made one thing abundantly clear: They care more about Brittney Spears being chased by Paparazzi than they care about the wars, the economy, or even the Constitution. Americans have given more attention to music, movie stars, and what’s on TV than to their country, and it shows.
Meanwhile our financial system, our military campaigns, our very national character have unraveled, and few people can explain why.
Some pundits claim that America has been hijacked. The Bush administration and a corporate oligarchy have taken over our country and imposed their corrupt agenda on us. I thought that was true in 2001, and I kept the faith even after the 2004 elections. But I just can’t believe that anymore. The idea that Americans are basically good, concerned citizens, yet powerless over their government and their economy is simply not true.
I used to have plenty of explanations for why this country was failing. Our corporations have impoverished Middle America and industrialized China. Fox News, Rupert Murdoch, and the mainstream press are biased and refuse to cover certain issues. The Federal Reserve secretly controls our currency and thus our economy.
It’s all true, and it’s all happening because this decadent culture just doesn’t give a shit.
Other Americans have sought conspiracy theories to place the blame and explain away the crises. Some say covert governments like the Illuminati or the Trilateral Commission secretly control this nation. I agree that a corrupt oligarchy runs our country, but I don’t think this is a secret. Our politicians and CEOs simply mouth their lies to the cameras, then get on with their agenda; building factories in China, cutting taxes for the rich, and waging wars for oil.
However, there is one conspiracy that is not a theory at all, but a growing body of evidence for the most heinous crime in American history. The internet is seething with video documentaries pointing out the lies, inconsistencies, and omissions concerning the events of September 11, 2001. After reviewing this evidence, particularly the collapse of World Trade center Tower #7, I am convinced that 9/11 was an inside job.
Clearly this is a conspiracy to commit mass murder. A conspiracy to blame Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden for this crime, and declare a “War on Terror”. A conspiracy to use this ensuing War on Terror to invade Afghanistan and Iraq.
This was a dastardly plan, orchestrated over months or years, and their were thousands of people involved. It’s not just the Bush administration. The FBI, the CIA, Republicans and Democrats have participated in the plot and the cover-up.
Yet the American People are not united in shock and outrage. Not enough of us are demanding more information, or a new investigation of 9/11. That is what’s most disturbing.
The biggest conspiracy of all, the biggest lie, is the idea that the American people are victims of all this, and not citizens responsible for the death of their country.
